The purpose of The Heart Center of North Texas lipid clinic is to evaluate and manage patients with abnormal lipid levels (high cholesterol). Studies have shown that patients can dramatically reduce their risk of heart disease by maintaining normal cholesterol levels.

After enrollment in the lipid clinic, your Heart Center of North Texas physician or nurse practitioner will order blood tests to determine the level of lipids in your blood.  Using those results, an individualized treatment plan will be developed that may include lifestyle modification, dietary recommendations/modifications, nutritional counseling, exercise counseling and support to help you embark on a tailored physical activity program and the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs to help patients lower their cholesterol levels.  Patients are also informed of the possible complications related to lipid-lowering therapy, as well as ongoing and comprehensive education about therapy with specific attention to the signs and symptoms to report.  As with many forms of heart problems, early detection is a key factor in preventing serious complications.

Studies have shown that patients who participate in lipid clinics have a much lower incidence of heart disease, heart attacks, or strokes compared to those who are cared for in the traditional manner.

The Heart Center of North Texas Lipid Clinic is open Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Clinic visits are by appointment only.  Please call (940) 566-2358 to schedule an appointment.
